基于图形处理器的并行方体计算

方体(cube)计算是数据仓库和联机分析处理(Online analytical processing,OLAP)领域的核心问题,如何提高方体计算性能获得了学术界和工业界的广泛关注,但目前大部分方体算法都没有考虑最新的处理器架构.近年来,处理器从单一计算核心进化为多个或许多个计算核心,如多核CPU、图形处理器(Graphic Processing Units, GPU)等.为了充分利用现代处理器的多核资源,该文提出了基于GPU的并行方体算法GPU-Cubing,算法采用自底向上、广度优先的划分策略,每次并行完成一个cuboid的计算并输出;在计算cuboid过程中多个分区同步处理,分区内多线程并行.GPU-Cubing算法适合GPU体系结构,并行度高.与BUC算法相比,基于真实数据集的完全方体计算可以获得一个数量级以上的加速比,冰山方体获得至少2倍以上的加速.     

Building a database for product design knowledge retrieval—A case study in robotic design database

In product design process, when dealing with technical problems or initiating a new design, R&D personnel would often turn to technical database to seek inspiration. The building of a database with such documents has not been systematically dealt with. In this paper, several issues on how to build up a product design database are investigated: input source, sampling scheme and quality control. A case study of building a database for robotic design is used to demonstrate the concept. It is an archive of more than 1500 relevant technical papers. A total of 16 graduates are employed as operators in the labeling process and subsequently the hypothesis tests are utilized to process the labeling results. To ensure this database quality, the labeling consistency of each operator and the understanding of each category are tested. With the use of statistical methods, this work proposes a feasible and practical way to create such a database for product design.     

Improved results for scheduling batched parallel jobs by using a generalized analysis framework

We present two improved results for scheduling batched parallel jobs on multiprocessors with mean response time as the performance metric. These results are obtained by using a generalized analysis framework where the response time of the jobs is expressed in two contributing factors that directly impact a scheduler’s competitive ratio. Specifically, we show that the scheduler IGDEQ is 3-competitive against the optimal while AGDEQ is 5.24-competitive. These results improve the known competitive ratios of 4 and 10, obtained by Deng et al. and by He et al., respectively. For the common case where no fractional allotments are allowed, we show that slightly larger competitive ratios can be obtained by augmenting the schedulers with the round-robin strategy.
